Westport sculpture nominated in Irish Architecture Awards

The public realm space The Sentinel sculpture in Westport, is among 50 projects shortlisted for this year’s RIAI Irish Architecture Awards, which were announced by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). The Sentinal sculpture which was created by Ronan Halpin was commissioned by Westport Town Council in 2013 following the town winning the award for the ‘Best Place to Live in Ireland’.

Mayo County Council is once again this year providing free Christmas tree recycling in Mayo. Christmas tree recycling in Swinford will be provided for at the council depot on Kilkelly road only. In Swinford and surrounding areas, trees will be accepted until tomorrow, Saturday January 16. Ensure all decorations are removed from Christmas trees prior to recycling. Westport claims TidyTowns large town award

Westport was named Ireland's tidiest large town on Monday at the annual national TidyTowns Awards ceremony which was held in the Helix in Dublin. In total, Westport scored 322 marks, just one behind the overall winner Letterkenny. There were other award wins for Westport on the day, with Nicoal Sammon winning a Junior Community Hero award and the Edible Landscape Project in the town winning the Sustainable Development Award.
